Manchester City successfully defeated RB Leipzig with a score of 7-0 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Erling Haaland scored five goals in this match.
In the 20th minute, Manchester City was awarded a penalty after Benjamin Henrichs was deemed to have committed a handball during an aerial duel with Rodri. The decision was made by the referee following a VAR review.
Erling Haaland stepped up as the penalty taker and executed his duty well. His shot towards the left side was anticipated by Janis Blaswich, but the fast-moving ball proved too difficult for the RB Leipzig goalkeeper to block.
Haaland completed his hat-trick in injury time of the first half. The goal began with a header by Ruben Dias that was saved by Janis Blaswich and bounced off the post.
The ball then rolled along the goal line. Amadou Haibara tried to clear the ball, but Haaland closed the gap. Haibara's kick hit Haaland and the ball went into the goal.
Leading by three goals in the first half, Man City seemed unsatisfied. Within 10 minutes of the second half, Man City had already scored two more goals.
Ilkay Gundogan scored the fourth goal in the 49th minute. Receiving a pass from Jack Grealish, Gundogan made a quick move and shot with his left foot, sending the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Five minutes later, Haaland added his name to the scoreboard again. Haaland scored in the melee that occurred in front of the RB Leipzig goal.
After his header was initially saved by Blaswich, Haaland managed to chase the ball and shoot with his left foot from close range.
Three minutes later, Haaland scored his fifth goal. Haaland once again took advantage of a loose ball in the penalty box. This time his right foot shot found the back of the RB Leipzig net.
In the 63rd minute, Pep Guardiola decided to substitute Erling Haaland with Julian Alvarez. This followed earlier substitutions when Grealish and Gundogan were replaced by Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez.
After Haaland came off, Man City continued to seek more goals. The seventh goal for Man City finally came in injury time through Kevin De Bruyne.
Man City won 7-0 against RB Leipzig and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with an 8-1 aggregate lead.
